Proposed social statement on human sexuality, responses 2009

This series comprises responses to the ELCA's proposed social statement on human sexuality released to the public on February 19, 2009. These responses are handwritten, typewritten, and electronic mail correspondence. While some respondents indicated they were members of an ELCA congregation, many others did not indicate if they were members of an ELCA congregation or what faith, if other than Lutheran, they practiced. Much of this correspondence was addressed to Presiding Bishop Mark S. Hanson, but it was answered by staff to the Task Force for ELCA Studies on Sexuality. There is other correspondence that is addressed to the task force or its staff, but the majority of this correspondence is addressed either to Bishop Hanson or the ELCA in general. While much of the correspondence conveys specific responses to the statement, some of the correspondence is that of general inquiry from persons wishing to know how they can obtain extra copies of the statement or other resource material available to the public. In addition to the folders of response correspondence, there is one folder of resolutions and memorials offered at synod assemblies pertaining to the proposed social statement or the work of the task force in general. In the upper-right hand corner of the resolution, there is a notation in ink of whether or not the resolution or memorial passed at the synod assembly.
